Learn how to create beautiful, lasting places

Have you ever wondered why we’ve stopped building the places people love? You’re not alone.

The kinds of places people naturally gravitate toward- places with character, walkable streets, vibrant public spaces, and beautiful architecture- are more needed than ever.

And yet…

…surprisingly few schools teach how to create them!

That’s why we created this course.

It’s an introduction to the timeless principles of citymaking, bringing together essential knowledge under one roof.

We’re dusting off the books, reviving the time-tested wisdom of those who came before us, and making it more accessible than ever.

Our goal: To empower a new generation to confidently shape a more beautiful, lasting, and meaningful world.

What’s inside

Module 1: Understanding Cities

In the first module, we lay a foundation for the rest of the course by answering some basic questions. What is a city, or a place? What do we want to achieve when working with cities? What issues do our cities face? What is urban planning, what kinds of (traditional) urban form exist and how did our cities evolve over time to create the problems we face today?

Module 2: Timeless PRinciples of Urban design

In the second module, we look at a number of timeless, universal principles that greatly improve our cities. We will go in-depth into concepts like walkability, gentle density and many others, and we'll show how they are scientifically proven to improve our cities.

Module 3: Traditional Architecture

A great city isn't truly great without beautiful architecture. In this course, we will discuss the time-tested language of traditional architecture - a way of designing rather than one style. We will do a deep dive into classical architecture, discuss various forms of vernacular architecture, we'll talk about traditional building materials and techniques and principles - it's going to be an amazing module!

Module 4: Urban Design elements

In the fourth module, we once again focus on the city and discuss streets, squares, plazas, transition spaces and of course the design of public spaces. These are some of the key elements of this course!
